Top U.S. Graduate Engineering Schools
Engineering has been around before people even knew its concept. Many colleges have sprung up to provide a good base to engineers. Below is the list of the top five engineering schools.
- Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA, - First on the list, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, doesn’t come to a surprise for many people. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology School of Engineering has been known for a long time and is a very well respected program in America. In fact, it is one of the best in the world so it is globally admired. The school is divided into nine sections; eight are academic departments while one is an interdisciplinary division.
- Stanford University, Stanford, CA – Second on the list, Stanford University, shouldn’t be a surprise to people as well. Stanford University School of Engineering has a large reputation in all fields to be honest. However, Stanford’s tuition is one of the highest, if not the highest, out of all American Graduate Engineering Schools. Stanford University School of Engineering is split up into nine different departments that cover all aspects of engineering.
- University of California – Berkeley, Berkeley, CA – The other California school in the top five is the University of California – Berkeley. Founded in 1931, this school has had a huge success. The University of California, Berkeley College of Engineering is very unique as it is free to students who live in its state, California. This obviously attracts many applicants, but this school has the lowest enrollment in the top five, meaning this program is very selective. The school is split up into eight departments covering all aspects of engineering.
- Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA – The other Institute of Technology is the fourth best graduate engineering program, Georgia Institute of Technology. It is split up into nine departments. It is placed fourth because its industrial engineering program is considered the best and its aerospace program considered the second best. Georgia Institute of Technology College of Engineering was founded in 1885, being the oldest college of Georgia Institute of Technology. The engineering program is very famous as it has a very high enrollment compared to other top programs.
- University of Illinois – Urbana-Champaign, Urbana, IL – Rounding up the list at number five is the University of Illinois – Urbana-Champaign. The UIUC College of Engineering was founded in 1868, and is one of the top programs today. It has the largest number of departments out of the top five at 12. The amount of research that goes on in this college is incredible. It has the third highest per dollar research expenditure in America, a great feat nonetheless. Their Civil Engineering program is second in the nation, along with many other programs placing in the top ten.
